This month's We Lit Reads June Reading Pick is Stacey's Remarkable Books by Stacey Abrams, illustrated by Kitt Thomas.


In this joyful and inspiring picture book, young Stacey loves books. She reads stories about adventure, friendship, heroes, and dreams. But one day she realizes that many of the books she reads don't feature characters who look like her.   1. Family Activity:

    Help your child become an author and illustrator for the day!


    You'll Need:

    • Paper or a blank notebook

    • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils

    • Stapler or binder clips


    Instructions:

    1. Fold several sheets of paper into a small book.

    2. Create a title page.

    3. Write and illustrate a story about your child, family, or community.

    4. Include a lesson, adventure, or dream.

    5. Share the finished book during family reading time.

    Encourage children to remember that their stories matter and deserve to be told.


    Literacy Extension:


    Build a "Remarkable Books" List

    As a family, create a list of books that have made an impact on your child.


    Ask:

    • Which book made you laugh?

    • Which book taught you something new?

    • Which character reminds you of yourself?

    • Which story would you recommend to a friend?


    Keep the list all summer and continue adding new favorites.

    This month, challenge your family to read books that celebrate diverse voices and experiences.


    Visit your local library, We Lit bookstore, or community literacy program and choose stories that:

    • Feature different cultures and backgrounds

    • Introduce new perspectives

    • Celebrate family and community
