Every child deserves the opportunity to see themselves in a book—and to discover the stories of others.
Research consistently shows that access to books at home plays a vital role in children's literacy development, vocabulary growth, academic success, and lifelong reading habits. Children who grow up surrounded by books and are read to regularly develop stronger language skills and are more likely to become confident readers.
At the same time, representation matters. According to the Cooperative Children's Book Center's 2024 Diversity Statistics, more than half of newly published children's books now include significant Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC) content—a meaningful step forward. Yet many children still struggle to find books that authentically reflect their identities, cultures, abilities, and lived experiences.
That's why We Lit Academy exists. We are building a community where every child has access to engaging books, diverse stories, and literacy experiences that inspire curiosity, confidence, empathy, and a lifelong love of reading.
